Action Supermarkets

Action (Formerly Action Food Barns) was one of the largest supermarket chain in Australia. Based in Perth, Western Australia, Action had 80 Supermarkets across Western Australia, Queensland & New South Wales. Its generic brand range was called Basics and its corporate generic brand range was called Signature Range. Action's last slogan was "Action means a great deal". Previous slogans included "Packed Full of Great Shopping Ideas" & "Packed Full of Good Taste".

Action served in excess of 750,000 customers every week and employed over 7,800 staff. Total supermarket trading area at the end of the November 2003 was approximately 159,000 square metres.

Action was originally a supermarket chain operating exclusively in Western Australia. FAL (the parent company of Action) was sold to rivals Metcash (Australian licencees of the IGA brand) & Woolworths in late 2005. In March 2006, Metcash announced that it will convert most of the remaining Action supermarkets into Supa IGA and other forms of IGA stores. This last store was located at Westfield Whitford City in Hillarys, Western Australia.
