[edit] Plot summary
The episode begins with a brief recap of the last scene in "Into the Nature". As Renton's mind reels under the onslaught of the typeTheEND's main weapon, he cries out for his sister to save him, which causes the Amita Drive to flood the cockpit in green light. Eureka sees Renton maniacally trying to pull out the compac drive, but she stops him. The Nirvash unleashes a burst of energy of its own, startling Anemone. Together, the two LFOs enter the Coralian.
The 606 and 808 pick up incoming missiles on their radars. The trapar-rich area, however, prevented the missiles from making effective contact. Having picked up the Gekko, Jurgens orders the Izumo to fire her lasers at the opponent ship. The lasers also miss, for the same reason. He then has his crew use the path-bending effect to shoot at the Gekko from behind the Coralian. Although Dominic protests Jurgens' pursuit of the Gekko, Maria Schneider points out that if Gekkostate wins the battle, they would be in possession of the typeTheEND.
Renton comes to inside his old school classroom in a science lesson about butterflies, but the teacher and his classmates are made of clay. The butterfly on the chalkboard flies off, and as it floats over his desk, he sees a model of the classroom. Now seated in a deserted place, he lifts the model to his eyes and sees a clay model of himself sitting and staring at him. Startled, he drops the model, and when he looks up again, the classroom is in shambles, as if someone had picked up the room and dropped it. Frightened by the dreamlike world, he runs for his life.
As Mischa observes the two Nirvash readings, she manages to pick up the pilots' vital and mental signs. She notices that Renton's graph is indicative of someone in REM sleep. Not only this, Eureka's graph is synchronizing with Renton's, almost as if she's chasing him. As the Izumo fires laser volleys at the Gekko, Ken-Goh returns fire, but misses. Both ships continue on a collision course. Both Holland and Jurgens, knowing that the shorter distance will lessen the Coralian's effect on their weapons, order their ships to fire all their missiles as soon as they are at very close range.
Renton, running from an enveloping darkness, ducks into a restroom. He tries every stall, but only the last one is vacant. A hand pushes him into a massive toilet. As he drifts in the water, he sees a girl in a dress. Eureka finds herself in the same classroom Renton was in.
As the two ships pass one another, the Izumo fires her last payload, damaging the Gekko's starboard wing. Meanwhile, Dominic picks up transmissions of Anemone yelling at Renton.
At a scene resembling his old lift spot, a sky fish runs into Renton, and turns into Anemone. Renton tells her that he doesn't know her, so Anemone tries to kill him. As Renton tries to swim away in the Zone, Eureka grabs his hand, and together, they evade Anemone.
After the two ships "orbit" the Coralian, Ken-Goh fires a laser volley at the Izumo, this time scoring a direct hit on her port wing. In a world with a sea and full of pillars, Renton catches a glimpse of his sister, but she vanishes. Eureka takes his hand, and together they head back home. At the same time, the trapar levels drop, and the Coralian vanishes with a flash of light. Both the Gekko and Izumo depart from the area. Renton comes to in the Nirvash, with an unconscious Eureka's hand holding his hand to the Amita Drive.
[edit] Significance
Although the Zone is mentioned in "Into the Nature", this episode's depiction of the Zone, described in the ship display as the area inside this form of Coralian, is recapitulated in later episodes; in particular, the last scene involving the Zone in this episode is a foreshadowing of a later journey through the Zone[1].
[edit] Trivia
Although Eureka is typically the "girl" mentioned in the episode preview, the preview for "Acperience 1" clearly refers to Anemone.
