From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ackawi is a white cow's milk cheese, native to Palestine. The city of Akka is where the cheese gets its name, meaning "from akka" (ackawi). It is also spelled Akawi and Akawieh. Ackawi is a Middle Eastern style of cheese. It is a semi-hard cheese with a smooth texture and a mild salty taste. Commonly used as a table cheese, it is good by itself or paired with fruit.

This cheese is now produced in many countries, and is especially popular around the Middle East. It is one of the best-selling cheeses among Arab-Americans.
