Abyssinia Province, Ottoman Empire

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abyssinia (Turkish: Habeş) was a Red Sea province of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th and early 17th centuries. At various times, it included Massawa (in modern Eritrea), Suakin (Sudan), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), and Zeila (Somalia). However, the Ottomans were unable to permanently occupy any of Abyssinia-proper (today Ethiopia).
