Abwehrflammenwerfer 42

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Abwehrflammenwerfer 42 was a German flamethrower land mine used during the Second World War. It consisted of a large rounded eight gallon capacity cylinder containing fuel, with a smaller cylinder attached to the top containing a slow burning propellent charge. A large two inch diameter (50 millimeters) pipe directed flow of burning fuel. The mine was normally emplaced behind barbed wire entanglements, covering road blocks or other obstacles.

When triggered the mine projected a sheet of flame five yards wide and three yards high for a distance of thirty yards for approximately one and half seconds.
