Abuna Aregawi

Abuna Aregawi is a sixth century Syrian monk said to have built Debre Damo. He is one of the nine saints said to have solidified Christianity in Ethiopia. Most information on him consists in legends. In one of these legends God provided a large and highly cooperative snake for him to aid him in climbing the steep mountain so he could build Debre Damo.[1]
