Abita Springs is a town in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,957 at the 2000 census.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 1,957 people, 757 households, and 550 families residing in the town. The population density is 183.0/km² (474.3/mi²). There are 813 housing units at an average density of 76.0/km² (197.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 95.30% White, 3.01% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.31% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 1.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 757 households out of which 37.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% are non-families. 22.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.59 and the average family size is 3.07.
In the town the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.1 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $39,923, and the median income for a family is $45,208. Males have a median income of $36,250 versus $27,368 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,998. 6.7% of the population and 4.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.4% of those under the age of 18 and 11.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

- Abita Springs Water Company -- The natural spring water from the artesian wells of Abita Springs has long enjoyed a good reputation in the area, and Abita Springs Water is bottled and sold throughout the southern portions of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama. It is also sold in the part of the Florida panhandle south of Alabama.
- The Abita Brewing Company -- In 1986, Abita Brewing Company was established as a microbrewery, and in 1994 they added a brew pub & restaurant. Abita's beer is brewed with the pure water of the artesian wells in Abita Springs.

The Abita Mystery House at the UCM Museum in Abita Springs is an attraction for tourist and locals. The place is made up of several old buildings and exhibit halls. It is open every day except major holidays and a small admission fee is charged to see the exhibits. Some visitors have described it as a poor man's Believe it Or Not museum. Others call it a folk art environment. The collections are not as historic as they are funny. Visitors also enjoy old arcade games and Southern themed mini town. www.abitamysteryhouse.com
