[edit] Leaving messages for people
Leave messages on the "discussion" page, not the user page.
As far as your schoolkid soccer buddies are concerned, we have no verification from any independent source that they exist at all. I'm sure they do, but so do six billion other people. The question is whether they merit an article. If they're the best soccer players at their high school, quite frankly no one outside the school cares. If they actually are signed by, and placed on the active roster of, a major professional team, that would be notable. Clearly that hasn't happened yet, because if it does, it will be in the news. If that happens, and they actually apear in major league games, feel free to recreate the articles. Fan1967 23:38, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the normal process is to leave messages on someone's User Talk page (not the User Page). Also, when you leave a message, sign it with four tildes (like this: ~~~~). When you Save the page, it gets translated to your name and the date and time. Fan1967 18:15, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] your userpage
Hello there - may I enquire about how you have set-up your userpage? Have you copied it from somewhere else? While it's ok to "borrow" good bits from other people (nice to tell them), it means that some of the information you have on your Userpage is incorrect. For example - unless I am mistaken, you do not have 2,500 edits and you are not approved for the use of Vandalproof.
Do you need some help getting set-up?
If so - let me know on my talkpage.

[edit] Replies
Hi again not sure what's happening but your answers to people seem to be generating new pages. Are you replying by clicking on their name and then clicking the discussion tab?
This is a link to my talkpage - use this rather than using other methods.

Oh and it would be appreciated if you would remove the vandalproof tag as you are not an appoved user and it could lead to confusion.

[edit] Aw man...come on!
I removed the Zidane stuff, I hope you weren't offended. I was just upset that the French had beaten the Spanish who I had quite a bit of money on. Batman2005 22:59, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

- Agreed, I nearly jumped through the television set when they called that PK! Batman2005 23:34, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you
I much appreciate this token. Football articles have given me a great chance to express my interest and learn about European sports organization. As well, I do hold Les Bleus and Arsenal (especially manager Arsène Wenger) in high regard. Maybe there will be a repeat of the final at France '98 this time... GoldDragon 01:15, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

- Me too. I wish people would stop vandalising the England page though... Many thanks for the bestowment. I have prepared a speech, but it might go over the kilobyte recommendation of Wikipedia, so I'll store it away. Gary Neville for 100 caps. Bless you. Bentley Banana 14:23, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- A third thank you. I've devoted my time in improving the football sites and gladly appreciate the recognition. I will be pulling for France against the Samba Boys. Vive le France! Squadoosh 05:44, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Just to echo what was already been said, thank you. The honour is much appreciated. SteveO 12:05, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jojo
You did not create that image, if you found it on a website. Images on websites, including this one, are copyrighten. -- Zanimum
- As with Stephen Colbert, which we have multiple free-license images for already. -- Zanimum 15:53, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- t's licence-free image isnt that the correct licence that i chose?
Yes, you chose "PD-self", a license that claims you made the image yourself, which you clearly didn't. Even if you chose another public domain license, this also would be wrong. Almost anything you see on the Internet or in real life is copyrighten, even if you don't see a (c) symbol near it. These would, in some cases, be considered Wikipedia:Fair use. However, as we already have pictures on our site of these people, on other pages, you must use those existing images. -- Zanimum 15:56, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vandalism
Just to keep you in the loop - I've looked into the guidelines and my removing the Vandalproof logo from your page was not vandalism and I will be applying to admin to get the warning you placed on my page removed from my record. --Charlesknight 09:16, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Natasha Lyonne
This doesn't change anything on the French page, but for the record, it is pretty clear that Lyonne's mother is Jewish, too. See this at the bottom of the page [1]. She says her mother's parents were Holocaust survivors, with one being in Auschwitz. I kind of doubt that they were from France, though you never know. I have never seen a reliable source that described either Lyonne's mother or (this is the important part for the list) Lyonne herself as French. Mad Jack 08:28, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A French AMerican
A person who would be on a list of French Americans is someone who has been described explicitly as French American (or "French", if they are also "American") by a reliable source. Exactly like the link you just gave me, that mentioned several people were "French Americans". Matt LeBlanc - all I've seen is that he has French ancestry on his father's side, along with many other ancestry groups. I've never seen him described as a French American, I doubt anyone would describe him as that, and I doubt he himself would - but you can prove me wrong on this if you have a quote by him or something. All he has is some distant French ancestry, which is probably nothing but a piece of trivia at this point. Mad Jack 20:33, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- I know but "Americans of French descent" is not encyclopedic. See WP:WWIN#Wikipedia_is_not_an_indiscriminate_collection_of_information. Listing everyone who is 1/32 French is exactly a random collection of information, precisely because such a fact had little to no effect on the lives of the people listed. [edit] An imposter account
An imposter account, AbdelkweIi (talk • contribs • page moves • block user • block log) (AbdelkweIi) was recently created by someone in an attempt to impersonate you. That account has been blocked; but the imposter did commit several acts of vandalism, apparently to try and harm your reputation. Just thought you would like to know. --EngineerScotty 23:40, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Franco-americans article.
while im not exactly franco-american, i was born in france and raised in various locations in north america. great work on the franco-americans article! User:adam the atom 15:38, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, a lot of French arrived here a long, long time ago, and mostly 1. faded into mainstream America, so we have a lot of Americans with really distant French roots 2. Became French-Canadians or 3. Became Cajuns. That's why there aren't a lot of just "French Americans" Mad Jack 19:18, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, the only page I can think of is French American, where you've already been. I'm sure that French American can be vastly expanded. From noting the early history to the evolution of the French in America - the creation of the Cajun communities, etc. - you get the idea. You could use a huge article like Italian American as an example. Mad Jack 19:38, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks very much
Wow, I've just noticed the barnstar you left on my user page. Totally unexpected, but good to know that my work is appreciated. Thank you. All the best :) - Nzd (talk) 15:08, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Ditto the above message. It is nice to be appreciated. Wiki has given me great pleasure and I look forward to further editing, cheers and good luck to all. Djln --Djln 23:52, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] French Names
Bounjour Abdelkweli! I was just wondering, can you tell me what is my name in French, I began to be intersted in the France region and the French language, and I was just asking can you translate my name which is Abdullah Geelah in French, and can you write it in my userpage where the section of my name in different languages is (if you know a different language apart from the ones in my userpage please write them in), I would be extremely grateful if you do!!!
