Abdulah Makhmud Hendropriyono is a retired General from Indonesian Special Forces (KOPASSUS) who was a Minister of Transmigration as well as Minister of Manpower from 1998 to 1999, headed the state intelligence agency, Badan Intelijen Negara, from 2001 to 2004. . Hendropriyono claims that in 1998 Indonesian intelligence agents discovered al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden's plans to attack the US. After September 11, He claimed "[w]e had intelligence predicting the September 11 attacks three years before it happened but nobody believed us." Until October 2002 he was the only man fighting teror in Indonesia while most of the Indonesian officials rejected claims of the existence of the Islamic extremists group.
