Abdullah Gegić

Abdullah Gegić (born in 1924 in Novi Pazar, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes) was a Yugoslav football coach.

As a player Gegić didn't achieve much, his biggest achievements were as a coach. He began his coaching career as coach of the Yugoslavian U-21 and senior team. He coached Partizan Beograd to the final of the European Cup in 1966 were he saw a defeat against Real Madrid 2-1. He was named the second best coach of Europe by the France football magazine. If Gegić had won the final he would be named coach of the Real Madrid team.

Gegić then came to Turkey to coach Eskisehirspor he was very successful here leading the club to many victories. He also coached Fenerbahçe SK , Besiktas JK and the Turkish national team.

Gegić was named 'Futbol profesoru' meaning football professor. In 1979 he took the Turkish nationality and became an official Turk. Gegić is still an important figure in Turkish football.
