[edit] Pronounciation
(ab-cud-ef-gï)(jek'l-m'nâp-kwûr)(stööv-wik-ziz
- What's the pronunciation scheme used here? --Brion 08:04 29 Jun 2003 (UTC)
- I couldn't find any wikipedia-user-guide-standards for pronounciation guidelines, so I used my Merriam-Webster Dictionary as a reference. Kingturtle 09:26 29 Jun 2003 (UTC)

- See Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (pronunciation) for some old discussion... SAMPA seems to be the de-facto standard so far, though it leaves something to be desired. Personally I find the (various) dictionary systems incomprehensible. :( At least we've got some charts & tables online for SAMPA which can be linked to (eg SAMPA/English)... (IPA is trickier to do online. Best way, of course, is to record the sound and upload it.) --Brion 09:31 29 Jun 2003 (UTC)
- SAMPA is used with the understanding that when it one day becomes easier to use IPA we can do some sort of automatic conversion because the symbols are in 1-to-1 correspondence. -- Tarquin 09:37 29 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Uh, this particular sort of pronunciation guide is not guiding me.... It is like staring at Cascugian pictograms. --Menchi 22:58, 11 Jun 2004 (UTC)
[edit] From VfD
- Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz - is this a joke? Vancouverguy 02:22, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- No, I've seen Big Bird sing this song on TV. It's real. Bryan 02:33, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Don't delete this. It brought back childhood memories and it is a valid encyclopedia article. Alexandros 02:41, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Delete unless rewritten as an article - Marshman 03:00, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Keep. This is way less obscure than a lot of stuff on WP. -- Merphant 04:18, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- I like the song too :) But merge to Latin alphabet or English alphabet or whence it came. Dysprosia 05:09, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- If it must be merged, perhaps Big Bird would be a better place to put it? Bryan 05:54, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- I agree. Merge with Big Bird, Bmills 11:14, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Good to know that's real. Seeing the word "fagget" in there made me wonder. I guess that was the vandalized version. Vancouverguy 14:37, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Keep, I don't think that's really the correct title for the article title, though, isn't this just "The Alphabet Song" or something like that? Daniel Quinlan 17:59, Nov 26, 2003 (UTC)
- Keep. We have a good number of articles about specific songs, such as Send in the Clowns, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, If You're Happy and You Know It, Puff the Magic Dragon, etc. Kingturtle 17:36, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
The above discussion from VfD is quite amusing, given that the current article is about a word, not a song. Still, easy mistake to make. Martin 20:24, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)
[edit] Should this page be? If so, what?
My main opinion is that this should be merged with Latin alphabet; however, I've given a nod to separateness by at least cross-referencing that article to here in the See Also section. Assuming that this page should continue to exist, should it be a straight disambiguation page, or a signpost article (per Category:Signpost articles)? My gut says "signpost", but I know there are strongly opposed factions that dispute the appropriateness of that class of pages altogether. I don't want to re-nominate on VfD, but I do want to reopen the debate on whether this is what the page should be and where it should be. Regards, Courtland 15:15, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Requested merger
Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz → Alphabet (disambiguation) – This is a merge request. The merge was proposed by User:Matt.Hoy. No specific reasoning has been stated for the merger, and discussion would be useful. User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 13:35, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

- Add *Support or *Oppose followed by an optional one-sentence explanation, then sign your opinion with ~~~~
- Support redirect to "Alphabet (disambiguation)" but there is nothing in this article which is not already in that article or the Alphabet song article. Please see Wikipedia:disambiguation and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) for dos and don'ts on a disambiguation page --Philip Baird Shearer 14:14, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

I think this page should just be redirected there since Alphabet (disambiguation) has all of this. User:Jgeszvain
