The Pilot: A Tale of the Sea is a historical fiction novel by James Fenimore Cooper. Its subject is the life of a naval pilot during the Revolution of 1775-1783. It was published by State University of New York Press most recently in June 1986 with the ISBN 0-87395-791-1.
