A Twist in the Myth is the eighth studio album by the German power metal band Blind Guardian. It was originally set to be released on September 5, 2006, but Nuclear Blast changed the release date to September 1, 2006. The promo version of the album leaked on July 2, 2006. The retail version of the album leaked in August of 2006 with "Dead Sound of Misery" and the English interview.

The album was released in several different formats: a normal version, a digipack version with bonus track and bonus CD, and a limited edition book-version. The book contains the digipack, along with a guitar pick, booklet and certificate of authenticity and autographs.

  • "All the King's Horses" will also be available on a single which will be released in early 2007.
  • "Market Square" is the demo version of "Straight Through the Mirror" and is only available on the DLP version of the album.

  • "This Will Never End" is inspired by Walter Moers' Wild Ride Through the Night.
  • "Otherland" is based on Tad Williams' Otherland series of novels.
  • "Turn the Page" is about the Wicca-Religion and the ritual of renewal.
  • "Fly" contains references to Peter Pan and was inspired by the film Finding Neverland.
  • "Carry the Blessed Home" is about Roland the Gunslinger at the end of Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
  • "Another Stranger Me" portrays what is going on inside the mind of a person with multiple personalities who becomes aware of his other self.
  • "Straight through the Mirror" tells, how dreams can change very quickly - it's about the importance of dreams in general too.
  • "Lionheart" is about Ulysses and his travels to Hades.
  • "Skalds and Shadows" is about the tales of Old Norse Skalds
  • "The Edge" is about St. Paul and his version of Christ.
  • "The New Order" deals with the necessity of changes.
  • "Dead Sound of Misery" is the dark version of Fly and lyrically an apocalyptic vision.
