Conversation Peace (1995) |
A Time to Love (2005) |
|
A Time to Love is the follow-up album to Stevie Wonder's 1995 studio release Conversation Peace. Originally to have been released in 2004, it was finally released to stores on October 18, 2005. However, the album was released electronically, exclusively on Apple's iTunes Music Store, on September 27. All release dates set in the first three quarters of 2005 were missed.
The first single, issued in April 2005, was "So What the Fuss", which featured Prince on guitar and En Vogue on backing vocals. Follow-up singles included "Positivity" with his daughter Aisha Morris, "From the Bottom of My Heart" and "Shelter in the Rain".
It's generally believed that with the three main songs on the album (If Your Love Cannot Be Moved, So What The Fuss and the title song, A Time To Love), Wonder's main focus was the importance of taking responsibility for our actions in todays world and not just to blame it on others. For example, if you don't vote, don't complain about the politians in office. Or as a lyric in "So What The Fuss" states "If you got to get up early in the morning for a job interview and you forget to set the stupid alarm, shame on you". With so much of todays pop centering in on sex and pointing the finger at others for ones problems Wonder's stance on this album is a breath of fresh air.

[edit] Original proposed tracklisting
The track listing changed dramatically in the months leading up to the album's release. Stevie reportedly recorded "scores" of songs between Conversation Peace and A Time to Love. A track listing posted in the spring of 2005 on the artist's website only had 6 songs in common with the final listing above. The old list was as follows:
- If The Creek Don't Rise
- A Time to Love
- Forever Is How Long
- What the Fuss
- I Can't Imagine Love Without You
- How Will I Know [duet with Aisha]
- If Your Love Cannot Be Moved
