Forbidden Broadway 2001: A Spoof Odyssey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Forbidden Broadway 2001: A Spoof Odyssey is the twenty- first century's first incarnation of the award- winning off-Broadway show. It was conceived and created by Gerard Alessandri and satirizes Broadway's latest.

The show opened in 2000 in the basement of Ellen's Stardust Diner. An album, the seventh in the series, accompanies the show, having been recorded and mixed in December 2000 by Cynthia Daniels at Sound on Sound in New York.

The show continues the tradition of commenting on current Broadway issues. They spoof new shows like the revivals of The Music Man, Cabaret, and Kiss Me, Kate; Aida, and The Full Monty. Older shows like Annie Get Your Gun, Miss Saigon, and Les Misérables, and stars like Gwen Verdon, Édith Piaf, Heather Headley, Marin Mazzie, and Ben Brantley are all also part of the ridicule.
