[edit] Some preliminary, voluntary guidelines for school AFDs
I don't think it's any secret that I hope that this will someday form the core for negotiating a WP:MUSIC-style compromise on school articles. In the meantime, the AFD debates are here to stay, and are often a new user's intoduction to the debate.
Just stick on a subheader if you have an idea. None of these are rules, just ideas to help make things nicer and clearer. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 22:41, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Be verbose
Be verbose in your reasoning for keeping or deleting a school article, even if you're not normally verbose on AFD. Instead of "Delete, nn school," vote "Delete. I feel school articles need to assert notability, and this one does not." Instead of "Keep, it's a school," vote "Keep. I do not feel school articles need to assert notability."
If there's a particular sort of school (primary vs. secondary, public vs. private, at least X size student population, etc.) that applies, make sure you mention that. For example, if the school is a high school and you feel high schools don't need to establish notability, vote "Keep. I feel high school articles don't need to assert notability."
This helps make it easier to see where people stand by looking at closed AFDs, in the hopes of forming a compromise. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 22:41, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Labels
Don't call people deletionist or inclusionist. Even if someone is obviously a sockpuppet account created specifically to disrupt AFD by spamming votes on every article, just don't do it. Labels like these, save when self-applied, serve only to disrupt. Everyone feels that certain articles should be deleted and certain articles should be kept; the difference in the placement of the line between these two groups is a matter for good-faith discussion, not partisan bickering. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 22:41, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Directly soliciting votes
Don't. I guarantee that plenty of people notice schools on afd anyway; if the current consensus doesn't seem to be going your way, you may be able to change that by rounding up your friends on IRC or through talk page messages, but it'll severely upset those who have already commented of their own accord. It's also one of the things that got GRider in trouble. —Cryptic (talk) 02:20, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] A new try at a compromise
Rob is trying to form a new compromise WP:SCH proposal, at Wikipedia talk:Schools. Please go and contribute your thoughts; I'd like to see a workable compromise, as would everyone here, I think. - A Man In Black (conspire | past ops) 17:48, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
- This looks pretty good. It seems to me that letting the debate run for a few months on AfD, through the deletions, has tended to bring people's views of what should be done into convergence. I'll not get involved because I don't want to risk importing some of the old ideas and thereby possibly reintroduce old strife. I'll just watch from the sidelines. --Tony SidawayTalk 00:18, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
