A Forger's Love (Japanese: 「愛の錬成」 - Ai no Rensei) is episode 4 of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series originally aired 2003-10-25.
During a trip to Central City (to take the State Alchemy Examination), Ed and Al take a detour to meet an alchemist named Majahal. Majahal's name had appeared frequently in their father's correspondences, usually in connection with the subject of human transmutation. During their visit to Majahal's village, the Elrics investigate a zombie who has been blamed for several deaths in the area.
The Elrics discover that Majahal and Karin had been lovers until Karin was killed in an accident, and in an attempt to see her beautiful face again, Majahal has been creating functioning mannequin chimeras resembling Karin. The young girls' deaths attributed to the zombie have actually occurred as a result of the process that attaches the souls of village girls to the mannequins, killing the girls. In a twist ending, it is revealed that Karin never actually died, but survived, albeit having lost her memories - but in the years since the accident, she has become old and wrinkled. Majahal refuses to accept the fact that the woman standing before him is Karin because the Karin he remembered was young and beautiful. Majahal, in a rage, attempts to murder Ed. In self-defense, Ed knocks Majahal's weapon out of his hand, which flies into the air and accidentally impales Majahal.
