Revenge of the Wannabes: A Clique Novel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Revenge of the Wannabes is the third novel in The Clique Series. Claire is finally part of The Clique but Alicia is drifting away.

Enter the life of Alicia Rivera. She's beautiful, rich, clever, and popular. But the thing she desires most is far beyond her reach...or is it?

Alicia Rivera is tired of being second to Massie Block. She decides to start her own clique with her new best friend Olivia Ryan, first by trying to host their own sleepover instead of attending Massie's weekly sleepovers. After cheating (and falsely winning) the Octavian Country Day uniform design contest, they get to be interviewed by the magazine Teen People. But instead of an interview, the fashion editor, Lucinda Hill, decides to put Alicia and Olivia in a holiday-themed fashion spread. Alicia and Olivia also receive "Dixons", which Lucinda says are the newest trend. Alicia is sure the meeting at Teen People will increase her popularity and set her apart from Massie.

Massie is upset when she finds out about both Alicia's sleepover and Teen People. She trys to meddle with the plans by impersonating Alicia and phoning Lucinda. She finds out that Lucinda wants Alicia and Olivia to bring some of their friends to model with them. Massie immediately sends her photos of herself and her friends Claire Lyons, Kristen Gregory and Dylan Marvil, after photoshopping them.

Massie and The Pretty Committee also create a hate mural and show it to Alicia and confront her about cheating on the uniform contest. On one wall shows Massie's Current State of the Union saying Claire was in and Alicia was out, making tears run down Alicia's face. Alicia runs away in tears and while waiting for her driver to pick her up from Massie's estate, encounters Claire's sneaky ten-year-old brother Todd. He says that he no longer likes Massie, but instead likes her. He flatters her and agrees to spy on TPC.

Alicia and Olivia recruit two girls who look like Dylan and Kristen: a girl nicknamed "Strawberry" because of her dyed pink hair and her temper, and the second-best athlete in the school, Kori. They give them fake Louis Vuitton scarves, telling them that it shows their membership in their clique.

At a Briarwood soccer game, Derrington asks Alicia to talk to Massie for him. Alicia doesn't want to reveal that she and Massie are fighting because she doesn't want him to take Massie's side. She promises Harris Fisher, Cam's older brother to get him Strokes tickets and thinks that he'll take her to the concert. When Alicia observes Massie flirting with Cam. Cam comes over and asks Alicia to talk to Claire for him and Alicia realizes that Massie likes Cam but Cam likes Claire. She agrees but only if Cam tells Harris to take her to the concert.

The next day, Alicia tells Claire that Cam likes her in front of Massie and the rest of the girls. Massie tries to hide her jealousy but tells Claire that Cam is a wannabe and copies his older brother. Massie says that if Claire wanted to hang out with Cam, she was no longer welcome with Massie.

At synchronized swimming, the only class Alicia has without Massie, Dylan, and Kristen, Alicia talks to Claire. She apologizes to get Claire on her side and says that they can hang out together with the Fishers on Friday night as a double date.

On Friday night, Massie and TPC hang out at GLU (Girls Like Us) headquarters, the Block's soon-to-be-renovated home gym, and tell their secrets to each other. Dylan confesses that instead of going to St. Barts for a weekend she is actually going to a fat camp. Kristen reveals that she doesn't have much money and she is on scholarship. Massie tells her friends that she likes Cam. But, Todd Lyons is eavesdropping on them and brings all the information to Alicia.

Meanwhile, Alicia and Claire go over to the Fishers'. She tells Cam that she already has a boyfriend in Florida (though this is not true) and both feel heartbroken. She feels torn between Massie and Cam. She tells the Pretty Committee what happens and is invited to join their Friday Night Sleepover.

When Alicia goes to Harris's house to drop off his Strokes tickets, she sees on his calendar, "Ask 'A' to go to concert" and mistakenly believes that he meant her. He reveals that he was bringing his friend Angela and that he wanted to call her again for White Stripes tickets. On her way out, she meets Massie who says she wants to talk to Cam. Alicia assumes that Massie is flirting with Cam and that she was going to steal Cam from Claire.

At school, Alicia confronts Dylan and Kristen and tells them that she knows their secrets, causing them to think that Massie spilled the beans. They are forced to wear her fake Louis scarves and Massie finds out. Todd tells Claire that he was spying on GLU headquarters and that Massie really did like Cam. She believes him and joins Alicia's clique. She invites Dylan, Kristen, Alicia, and Olivia to GLU Headquarters to practice modeling poses. Massie, who is thinking about apologizing to them, finds them and knows that she has lost her friends.

En route to Sushi Samba, the place where they meet Lucinda, (without Massie) Kori and Olivia let slip that Todd Lyons spied on GLU headquarters and told their secrets to Alicia. Dylan and Kristen feel terrible about what they did and text message Massie, finding out that she got a ride to Sushi Samba from Harris, with Derrington and Cam.

At Sushi Samba, Massie and Alicia fight with each other and Claire is upset and runs to the bathroom, crying. Massie admitted that she did like Cam, but went to his house to tell him that she heard that he liked to look up girls skirts and she was looking out for Claire. She gives them her blessing. Alicia is upset that she lost Claire to Massie.

Afterwards, they went shopping. They are given $300 each, except for Strawberry and Kori because they aren't modeling. Strawberry has a fight with Dylan, and Kori has a fight with Kristen so Alicia gives them her $300 and uses her dad's credit card to shop like she usually does. She spots a dress she knows she wants to wear to the shoot but needs to go comfort her friends. She hands it to a salesgirl, expecting her to hold it for her. Instead Massie buys the dress and Alicia has nothing to wear to the shoot. Lucinda lets her borrow something from Teen People's Closet.

At the shoot Massie and Alicia start a giant catfight among everyone, knocking out Santa and ruining the set. Massie loses her favorite charm on her bracelet, and Alicia finds it and they make up again. Lucinda decides not to have the shoot after all because of the mess, and Massie comes up with an idea, saying that they should do a story about how stressed people get over the holidays. They make it seem as though it was Lucinda's idea.

Massie agrees to be friends again with Alicia, as long as she remains friends with Olivia but doesn't try to include her in TPC and stops being friends with Strawberry and Kori.

At school the students of OCD are excited to see TPC's Teen People shoot photos. All is well again.

But at the OCD/Briarwood Tree Lighting party, Todd tells Massie that her dad is planning to move to Chicago but no one knows yet. Massie, shocked, says not to tell Claire because everything was finally perfect.
