A Perfect Match (1979) |
A Classy Pair is a 1979 (see 1979 in music) studio album by the American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, accompanied by the Count Basie Orchestra, with arrangements by Benny Carter.
This was Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie's first studio recording since the epic 1963 album Ella and Basie!, and this album finds Ella's voice much changed, but still possessing hints of her former greatness. Ella and Basie worked together much more frequently during her Pablo years than they had during her years on the Verve label, and this album marked the end of a relationship that had been cemented in 1957, Ella Fitzgerald being the 'jazz singer's singer' and Count Basie fronting the ultimate Big Band.
