A Bao A Qu is a Malayan legend described in Jorge Luis Borges's 1967 Book of Imaginary Beings. Borges claimed that he had found the legend in the book On Malay Witchcraft (1937), by C.C. Iturvuru.

The name is referenced in the modern day in several ways:

  • In Mobile Suit Gundam, A Baoa Qu is a space station, and the setting of the series' end.
  • In MÄR, A Baoa Qu is the name of Alviss' Guardian ARM.
  • One of Virginia Astley's albums is titled A Bao A Qu.
  • Jean-Luc Godard's "The Old Place" short film in 2006.
  • In Wild Arms 2, there is a monster named A Bao A Qu. (It is one of many Gundam references)
