[edit] Recruiting

The two main entry points for A.T. Kearney are as a Business Analyst and an Associate.

The Business Analyst (BA) is typically a recent college graduate and is expected to have an enthusiasm for problem-solving and an analytical skill-set. No specific major is required, though a demonstrated interest in economics and business can be valuable. Within two years, Business Analysts are promoted to Senior Business Analysts (SBA). However, progression is entirely based on merit and there is no up-or-out policy.

Insiders agree that the firm’s hiring process is “highly selective.” The firm cherrypicks from a list of schools, mostly “top-20 undergrad.” Caltech, MIT, Princeton, Brown, Harvard, Columbia and Yale (School of Management) all routinely make their way onto the firm’s recruiting schedule. For hires straight from college, there are “typically one round of on-campus interviews followed by a second round at one of the firm's 48 offices. Interviews include case questions testing both quantitative and business acumen”.

In 2005, A.T. Kearney's North American Offices reported more than 10,000 applications received for the Business Analyst position, from which 40 BAs were hired. A.T. Kearney offers a summer internship for undergraduates in between their junior and senior years. Summers who demonstrate high performance are invited to join the firm full time.

A.T. Kearney recruits the majority of its Associates from MBA programs, though those with significant industry management experience are encouraged to apply. Furthermore, the firm is particularly interested in candidates with a J.D. or a Ph.D. The Associate role is also in high demand and A.T. Kearney typically draws the bulk of its consultants from top-tier schools like Harvard Business School, Columbia Business School, Stanford Business School, the Wharton School, MIT Sloan School of Management, the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and the Kellogg School of Management.
