A. E. Hotchner

Aaron Edward Hotchner, (June 28, 1920- ) is an American editor, novelist, playwright and biographer. He was born in St. Louis and attended Soldan High School. He graduated from Washington University Law School in 1940, practiced law briefly, then served as a military journalist. Hotchner is best known for Papa Hemingway, his 1966 biography of close friend Ernest Hemingway, whose work he had adapted for plays and TV. King of the Hill, A. E. Hotchner's evocative memoir about growing up in St. Louis during the Great Depression, was captured on film in 1993. He earned admiration for giving all profits from a joint food venture with actor Paul Newman to support the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp and other charities.
