8217 Dominikhasek

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

8217 Dominikhasek is a main-belt asteroid named by NASA in 2003. It has the name of the star NHL goaltender, Dominik Hasek, named in his honor for winning the gold medal in the 1998 Winter Olympics. However, it was discovered on April 21, 1995.

He got a shutout, winning 1-0 in the final round, and was arguably the Czech Republic's biggest achievement for a sports event.

He then inspired an opera, titled Nagano about the Czech Republic's team's gold medal victory.
