Copyright law is controversial nowadays. Some copyright laws are believed to have unintended chilling effects on free speech. There is already an anti-copyright movement. I have clarified the legal issues concerning fan translation, such as quoting the Berne Convention's article "Right of Translation." That article in the Berne Convention has been believed to have an unintended chilling effect on free speech, and that it only serves to the force audience to learn the language that the work in question was published in, making more potential translators. Yu's Behind the Scenes of IRC says, "There is a gap between people's opinion and what is written in the law." Copyright law enforcement itself may be so difficult that it endangers freedom of expression and may require the copyright holder to betray his or her audience. That is because the same methods used to prevent distribution of pirated copies of copyrighted works can be used to prevent the distribution of undesirable media. – Tedius Zanarukando 22:42, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)
