  • The Kegon school of Buddhism arrives in Japan via Korea, when Rōben invites the Korean monk Simsang to lecture, and formally founds Japan's Kegon tradition in the Tōdaiji temple.
  • The first documented instance of hop cultivation in the Hallertau region of present-day Germany (which is today the most important production centre with about 25% of the worldwide production)[citation needed]
