[edit] June

Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. IrishGuy 22:03, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Netspeak

Please consider ceasing your use of netspeak (examples: OMG, LOLZ, 2="too/to/two", "u"="you", etc). Many editors strongly discourage its use. Thank you. — Nathan (talk) 06:58, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Seriously, stop using netspeak. Please use proper English (as you would find in a dictionary) or you make yourself look like an amateur AOL'er. Netspeak is evil. To answer your (badly worded, badly phrased, barely readable) question, I used it once on my userpage to make fun of people who use it.

ZOMGWTFBRB!!! WOULD U REALLY WANT 2 TYPE LYKE DIS?! Seriously, use proper English. It doesn't take much to type those extra keystrokes and make yourself look much more intelligent. If you use netspeak, it makes you look like you don't know how to use the English language properly. Do you really want to look illiterate? English is taught in schools, please put this to good use. Also, typing in all upper-case is generally accepted as shouting, which is incivil. Wikipedia has a policy against incivility.

Please read netiquette, netspeak and this link before you even type anything else on Wikipedia.

Your comment to me: HAY LOOK WUT I FOUND

"I will be gone on vacation on Wed 28 June to Thurs 6 July because of visiting family/birthday (ZOMG the scary "3-0")."

I WULD LIEK 2 HAV DA AUDASSIDY 2 POINT OUT DAT U USED DA TERM "ZOMG" N DA ABOVE STATEMENT

SRY IF DAT WUZ ASANINE OF ME

IT WAS JUS A LIL LOLZ-MOMENT 4 ME—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.2.179.129 (talk • contribs) .

Now this is what it should've said: "I'd like to point out that you contradicted yourself and used netspeak on your userpage. Thanks. ~~~~"

Notice how I use absolutely no netspeak, shortforms, capital letters (shouting) etc in that sentence and I sum up everything I have to say in one sentence. It is perfectly readable in normal mixed-case English.

Also, Please remember to sign all of your posts on talk pages. Typing four tildes after your comment ( ~~~~ ) will insert a signature showing your username and a date/time stamp, which is very helpful.

Thank you. — Nathan (talk) 23:57, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes, netspeak is a proper word. Why don't you actually read what the page I'm linking to says? Netspeak is what happens when you try to type in English but use annoying abbreviations, such as 2 instead of "to" or "too", u instead of "you", "becuz" instead of "because". Typing in all capital letters is considered shouting. Stop doing this. I will remove any comments left on my talk page until you can comment in proper English, proper spelling with regular mixed case typing (like this!). Typing in proper English is not at all difficult and it makes you look a lot more intelligent. If you can't learn proper English, I suggest finding a different site to edit because some admin might come along and just block you for being an annoyance. Now, I don't want to see that happen to you, so please listen to what I have to say and do as I suggest.

By the way, contractions are a perfectly acceptable part of the English language. I made no grammatical errors (your responses are rife with these). Essentially, you're blaming me for your own inability to type proper English, which is not at all constructive.

Please read this. Don't type anything, don't respond to me and don't make any contributions whatsoever to Wikipedia until you've read it. This is the last time I'm commenting on your talk page. I shouldn't have to ask anyone anything three times and I'm being unnecessarily patient with you. If you cannot use proper English with proper punctuation and proper grammar, do not use Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an online encyclopaedia that anyone can edit but at the same time, proper English + grammar + sentence structure must be used (see Wikipedia:guide to writing better articles and Wikipedia:Etiquette). The use of improper English, netspeak, slang, et cetera in articles make them look like they've been written by a third-grader - which is not suitable for an online encyclopaedia. Wikipedia is not a webspace provider and it is also not MySpace.

Now, I will tell you a third (probably more like fifth) time: Typing in all-capital letters is shouting. I can read regular mixed-case typing just fine. You are welcome to comment on my talk page anytime but all upper-case typing will be removed. If you want to get my attention, please use proper English. They do teach you English in schools for a reason. Please put the information you have learned in school to good use. Teachers obviously don't teach you things so you can ignore them. Don't they have education standards in Texas?

Oh, and before you make comments about my grammar, it's flawless. I even double-checked it in a UK English (my preferred writing style) grammar and spelling checker. — Nathan (talk) 06:12, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
