Hi, Welcome to Wikipedia -

Regarding your changes to Cichlid, Kullander (1998) estimates there to be 1900 species of cichlids. While there may well be 2000 species, we dont know this yet. Please do not alter Cichlid with information that remains to be verified. If you have a source/reference which estimates (or counts) over 2000 species, I think we should change the article (with the reference) to reflect that.

Please, let's not have an edit war over cichlid species numbers! If you have a reference in the scientific literature that over 2000 species have been described, then please add that reference and make the change. Otherwise, please don't add unverifiable facts to this article. There's plenty of scope for more constructive changes and additions to the article. But please don't forget to add your references! [edit] Please use edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. [edit] Cichlid page

Your recent contribution(s) to Wikipedia are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. If sources are left unreferenced, it may count as original research, which is not allowed. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks! Neale Monks 15:00, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Please do not make this assertion again (re: 2000+ species of cichlids) without a reliable source. If you disagree with the estimates in the article please feel free to discuss the issue at Talk..estimates of cichlid numbers. Continued addition of this change, without any reference, is beginning to look like vandalism. MidgleyDJ 20:12, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
