I am protesting your blocking of NYScholar and that IP Address, which you did today without any warning whatsoever. I was in the midst of debating problems relating to the posting of images in Wikipedia that are registered copyrights and trademarks of the Nobel Foundation. You have referred to other Wikipedia users "educating" me on copyright and fair use. I find that particularly insulting. I have been discussing these issues in a fair and measured manner, providing education links for their and other Wikipedia users' benefit, yet they refuse to read and to respond to the actual language in the copyright notices posted on the Nobel Foundation website and the July 2006 US Copyright Law provision of "fair use" (an update to that provision). I have already linked to Wikpedia articles and policies relating to copyright and copyright infringement. I know what "fair use" provision of US Copyright Law is, and I have linked to that provision. I do not need further education on this matter. I am discussing it, and, as directed by Wikipedia, which tells its users to remove copyright-infringements from its articles and images, I attempted to alert people to these problems with the Nobel Medal image and images, first on the talk page, then via tags. People who have uploaded these images are the same people who have contacted administrators to block my IP address apparently. That is retailiation for my raising these questions. This is not an editing war; this is a serious debate. This is also not vandalism. It is not Wikipedia policy to block a user without first providing some kind of warning that blocking was being considered. I received no such warning. I am requesting that my IP address be unblocked immediately. I have no time to continue commenting on this matter anyway, and I was just writing that when my IP addresss was blocked and I could not post that. I do, however, want to be able to work on other articles (not related to this debate about the viability of posting images and photographs of Nobel medals). Your blocking my IP address prevents me from doing so. That is not fair. If you wish me not to discuss the Nobel medal issue any further, then let me know that. But do not block my IP address in this manner. That is uncalled for. And it also smacks of insider-influence of other parties in this debate, particularly the uploader(s) of such questionable images. The images were only removed temporarily (not only by me but by other Wikipedia users and administrators) while the issues were being debated; images of the Nobel medal and Nobel medals can be restored if they are unquestionably deemed within fair use in articles on Alfred Nobel, the Nobel Prize, and individual Nobel laureates. But that issue still, it seems to me, is not resolved clearly and convincingly. Nevertheless, I am requesting that you unblock my IP address, so that I can edit other articles that have nothing to do with this debate. -- 64.12.116.138 22:38, 2 September 2006 (UTC) (NYScholar)
