3rd Regiment of Foot

The 3rd Regiment of Foot is one of the oldest infantry regiments in the British Army with a history dating back to 1572. It subsequently became The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) in 1935.

  • 1665-1689 The Holland Regiment
  • 1689-1708 Prince George of Denmark's Regiment
  • 1751-1782 3rd Regiment of Foot - or The Buffs
  • 1782-1881 3rd (East Kent) Regiment of Foot (The Buffs)

With the Childers reforms, numerical regiment names were abolished in favour of

In 1961 it was amalgamated with The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment to form

The Queen's Own Buffs, The Royal Kent Regiment
