3rd Regiment of Foot

The 3rd Regiment of Foot is one of the oldest infantry regiments in the British Army with a history dating back to 1572. It subsequently became The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) in 1935.

Until 1751 it was known by other names:
- 1665-1689 The Holland Regiment
- 1689-1708 Prince George of Denmark's Regiment
- 1751-1782 3rd Regiment of Foot - or The Buffs
- 1782-1881 3rd (East Kent) Regiment of Foot (The Buffs)
With the Childers reforms, numerical regiment names were abolished in favour of
- 1881-1935 The Buffs (East Kent Regiment)
- 1935-1961 The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment)
In 1961 it was amalgamated with The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment to form
