[edit] Plot Synopsis

Each year, Samuel, Jeffrey and Michael Douglas visit their grandfather, Mori Shintaro (whom the boys affectionately refer to as Grandpa), for the summer. Mori is highly skilled in the fields of Martial Arts and Ninjitsu, and for years he has trained the boys his technique.

This year, Grandpa presents the boys with new "ninja names":

  • Samuel becomes "Rocky", because he is "solid and cool as granite rock"
  • Jeffrey becomes "Colt", because he is "fast and free, a spirit of a young wild horse"
  • Michael becomes "Tum Tum" because his "ambition begins and ends with his tummy"

On the boy's last day with their grandfather, an old business associate and former student of Grandpa's, Hugo Snyder, comes to the house. A FBI task force, ironically lead by the boys' own father, is encroaching on Snyder's arms smuggling ring. Threatening Grandpa's life, Snyder attempts to coerce Grandpa into training his henchmen to become ninja, and leading the boys' father off his trail.

To further his aims, Snyder arranges for the kidnap of the boys, for which he hires three incredibly dim and incompetent surfers. The boys treat the would-be kidnappers to a night of Ninja moves (as well as gags, ala Home Alone), though the boys soon get captured by Snyder and soon become doubtful of their grandfather.

Grandpa trails the boys to Snyder's ship where they are being kept hostage. The boys find a way to escape on their own, but both they and Grandpa run into Snyder before they can get off the boat. Using a special technique Grandpa taught them, the boys defeat a powerful foe, as Grandpa faces Snyder before a host of Snyder's villainous Ninjas.

Grandpa eventually defeats his former student just as the FBI, who had been trailing Grandpa, surround Snyder and his forces.
