Someone add to this! PLEASE!!!!!
- Be specific, please. What *exactly* is it you feel is missing? Looks like a fine article to me, better coverage of the topic than most FAQs give it. Master Thief Garrett 06:00, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I've added to it myself, and what I wanted is to have info on what it is, in other words, the devolved Moltres stuff. -Jon

[edit] Proper way to write 'M's name.
Is it proper to write 'M's name as ▄█ 'M ▒░ ?
- I would think so, since that's pretty much what it displays in the name box in the game. However, that's quite a mouthful, so I think 'M is a good substitute, personally. --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 22:53, May 26, 2005 (UTC)
- Not sure I say 'M no images needed, SEE? As simple as that. P.S. The pixels are actualy: Ash's button on his pack, the pixel bellow it and parts of 'M
(edit)Those are actual letters?-Darkmewham
[edit] 'M and Moltres
There are many theories about 'M, but it is most likely a devolved Moltres that was partially deleted and is now a MissingNo. hybrid. This theory is supported by the fact that in the in-game Pokémon Red and Blue Hexadecimal List of Pokémon, used for cheats, Arcanine is directly next to Mew, and this is evidence that Arcanine was designed to be the fire legendary, but Nintendo thought it would be strange if there were 2 birds and 1 dog, so they created Growlithe based on Arcanine, and deleted Young Moltres. This theory is also supported by glitch Pokémon that are high on the list. These Pokémon are sometimes hybrids of other Pokémon, including the so called (PK symbol)(MN symbol)(glitches)a(glitches), which has a remarkable similarity to Poliwrath in Type and Starting Moves.(When caught, it has the moves of a equivolent level wild Poliwrath, even though Poliwrath is never wild.)
This was deleted by me, because it's sheer nonsense. Moltres is right next to Articuno and Zapdos in the Hexadecimal list, and nowhere near 'M. What's more, there are MANY cases of a Pokemon far from its pre/evolution in the hexadecimal list. --HeroicJay 7 July 2005 06:45 (UTC)

- Missingno is called a slot filler, Slot fillers are things that fill in the slots to make 255 slots. If they were blank the game wouldnt function and to be exact, sky attack and water gun (due to my memory) are right next to eachother on the hex table. Where koffing and weezing are. (Did I need to say that?) Items, attacks and pokemon are aranged that way. You know how when you buy a new TM its called TM23 ect..? Those are in their too. So when you use it it turs into the move. okay this is your game, You booted up TM23(item). Tm23 (move) contained uuuuuhhhh.... fire blast (not realy, but it is a move.) its a handy use for slots. So instead of keaping it blank they used MISSINGNO (witch probably was a beta.) Hey why not? They could fill it up with rattatta's. Why not?-Darkmewham
[edit] The correct title...
- {wrongtitle|title=Image:Msglitchname.jpg}
Heh. Is anyone advocating Wikipedia should one day have the ability to use images for article names? 82.92.119.11 22:51, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
- ▄█ 'M ▒░ can now be used. Andros 1337 17:38, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

- That's not the right name, though, if you wanna get pedantic. It's hardly even a common name. "'M" seems the most workable title to me. The "wrongtitle" template just made me smile. 82.92.119.11 17:53, 27 August 2005 (UTC)
- JUST SAY 'M THERE UGH!!!!! -darkmewham

I'm gonna remove the wrongtitle note from the article. Image:Msglitchname.gif is not the "name" of the glitch; it is the glitch itself. Names of things are written with letters.
It is the name of the Pokémon. But THIS may intrest you: !!!!!. If it ever get's fixed we can have the true name --FlareNUKE 03:31, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 3TrainerPoke
Is it right to suggest that 3TrainerPoke is "the same as" 'M? When I noticed that a link to "3trainerpoké" was on the Missingno. page, I clicked it and it redirected it to 'M. From what I know, the two are very different. I believe that 3TrainerPoke should be given its own page. I would do this right now, but I am hesitant to do so now, if you do not agree with me. Your thoughts? --Abwayax 04:52, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hey, if you can write an article that makes it clear that it's different from Missingno. and 'M, be bold and go for it. : )--Sparky Lurkdragon 21:21, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Let's just leave this as 'M
The sheer amount of over-formatting here is insane! Though the name displays as ▄█ 'M ▒░ or Image:Msglitchname.gif, we can't refer to it as that everywhere. Consider that not all browsers support these Unicode block elements, and that using an image drastically reduces usability of the page for text-only browsers (this from Lynx):
LBFB 'M :S.S From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. ... Image:Msglitchname.gif is a glitch in the Pokémon games, much like Missingno., which is found in the Pokémon Red and Blue Game Boy games and likely owes its existence to a programming oversight. Image:Msglitchname.gif is also commonly called 'M block because its name comprises two sets of glitchy boxes with "'M" in the middle. Encountering Image:Msglitchname.gif has been known to interfere with the save game data in various ways, such as adversely affecting the Hall of Fame saved data. Image:Msglitchname.gif 's presence also allows what is known as the "Rare Candy Cheat", the games' infamous item duplication bug which will duplicate any item that is 6th on the player's item list. The trick is commonly used to duplicate valuable and hard to obtain items, such the Rare Candy item. However, the duplication bug can affect any item in the game, not just Rare Candies.

I agree, therefore I've replaced all instances of the graphic with the plain text name. --Abwayax (contribs :: talk) 21:49, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Moved back from ▄█ 'M ▒░ to 'M
I moved this article back to 'M. ▄█ 'M ▒░ is no more correct than 'M, since "▄█" and "▒░" are NOT the symbols that appear in the name. Since the correct name is not usable, the article should use the glitch's most common text alternative.
I'm not going to get into the argument of whether to use Image:Msglitchname.gif or 'M in the article itself. That's up in the air. But the page title to use is 'M.

[edit] Difference?
What is the difference (besides the name) between MISSINGNO. and 'M? I personally almost never encounter Missingno, only 'M. Why? My name doesn't fit the naming requirements for the screwed-up 'M described in the article. What determines whether I encounter MISSINGNO. or 'M?70.25.138.179 18:48, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- There are many differences - for one, 'M evolves into Kangaskhan while MissingNO. doesn't. There's also reports of 'M freezing the game when you try to withdraw it from the PC. There's also Special forms of MissingNO. like the Ghost or Kabutops Fossil. Abwayax (contribs :: talk) 03:22, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fact Check
I was unable to find infomation on this statement
- 'M cannot be traded to Pokémon Gold and Silver because it does not exist in the second generation. In the trade center, 'M appears as a Slowpoke or Stantler. When the players try to trade 'M, a message appears stating “Your friend’s ['M’s name] appears to be abnormal.” and the trade is cancelled automatically. Less often, 'M can be traded, in which case it turns into the Pokémon it was displayed as.
Nothing came up on google, clusty, yahoo, or askjeeves. If anyone has better ideas on where to look give me a heads up... Or just do it yourself!! Eagle talk 22:10, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- In my own Gold game, I saw Missingno. as a Stantler. It always depends on the coding values of that specific Missingno. for what the coding is matched in the Gold/Silver/Crystal game. Tom Temprotran 07:33, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Removal of Merge tag
Hello, I'm just a wikignome passing through who noticed the merge tag on this article. I removed it because both articles, while similar and have similar references, are different enough and large enough to remain seperate. I don't know much about this, but it is apparent enough from the articles and discussion pages that they are active enough topics that they will be expanded and changed in the future, and that there isn't really any cruft to remove in order to prepare for a merge. [edit] Article Protected, FIX IT!
Although I'd personally like there to be a separate page for every "glitchy" Pokémon, including four Missingno. pages, I know that there can probably never be such on Wikipedia. Wow, Wikipedia is bad at describing Pokémon glitches. Please either remake this page, or just unlock it so I can rebuild it. If you do not, I will have to cry because Wikipedia is so inaccurate. 'M is as much a Pokémon as Pikachu, and more well-known (at least outside Japan) than, say, Mime Jr. or Weavile. It deserves its own article as soon as possible. So please unlock it.
