[edit] More Info Added

I added a little more information, including the training exercise on Iwo Jima in 1988. I was a member of 2/2 from 1987-1990 (Fox, H&S Co), and remember my time with great fondness. I am trying to find some more background information. Mushrom 01:57, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

  • May need to amend the notable info section. Would something to the effect of "the first BLT to land on Iwo Jima since WWII" be more appropriate? Also, I am questioning the notability of "1st Javelin fired from a deployed MEU." That is really stretching it. Always good to hae another Marine around. Let me know what you think.--Looper5920 02:10, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

It might, other then the fact that a BLT (Battalion Landing Team) is talking about an operational designation. A Battalion during it's history will fall under many different BLTs and RLTs. And each one will be different. In reality, 2/2 was part of an Amphibious Brigade at the time. There were also Artillary, AAV, and other units participating in the operation. However, 2/2 was the only Infantry Unit in the operation. I forgot the name of the operation and what the designation was for the "invasion force". Mushrom 18:36, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Also, I am questioning the notability of "1st Javelin fired from a deployed MEU."

At the time of the firing, it was a big deal, the Commandant of the Marine Corp (General Jones) was present to see it, along with a bunch of high ranking officers. I will never forget that moment, The Marine who fired the Javelin, I forget his name, he was in Weapons Co. Was promoted to Cpl on the spot, the Sergeant-Major of the Marine Corp asked for a set of Cpl Chevrons to pin on the newly promoted NCO and he took one of mine. It was a big day for 2/2--OneMoreNode 12:09, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
