"Smart" electronic route display in use near Jishuitan, NW 2nd Ring Road, Beijing. Taken by Wikipedian DF08 in July 2004.
Note from DF08: As with all things, YMMV (your mileage may vary). From personal experience, the display is fairly accurate for the portion of the road that comes immediately after it. When traffic piles up, and keeps on piling up, the update is pretty quick and reflects the situation well. However, for longer-distance forecasts, it seems to make an unfortunate habit of always providing inaccurate or false data. Obviously, this technology is at its infancy, so one has to allow for it to develop. Despite not a 100% accuracy rate, a very useful addition to the ring road nevertheless.
