Wikipedia consensus has established that this is not copyrighted in the US (see Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp.). Please stop adding copyright claims to the image page. [edit] RIPE shows IP is for an NPG user

As it says - this IP is allocated to the UK National Portrait Gallery. Bob aka Linuxlad 11:51, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

The image you are using originated from the NPG in the UK, and is therefore protected by copyright as a skilfully executed photograph of an ex-copyright work. The Bridgeman v Corel case has resulted in some confusion as far as copyright is concerned, see article at: http://www.museumscopyright.org.uk/bridge.htm. You describe vandalism as "any addition, deletion, or change to content made in a deliberate attempt to reduce the quality of the encyclopedia." Adding correct copyright information to your site is therefore not vandalism, as the information is increasing the quality of the content in the encyclopaedia.

[edit] Copyright claims

You posted a copyright violation complaint regarding the following image: Image:Marywollstonecraft.jpg

I went to the NPG website to see if the image had in fact been pulled from NPG without permission. The only image of this portrait I was able to find was http://images.npg.org.uk/OCimg/weblg/0/3/mw02603.jpg which is certainly not the same photograph as the one we are using. I was not able to find any evidence that the copyright for the photograph we are using belongs to the NPG. However, we have not yet been able to determine who took the photograph and thus who the copyright may belong to. The image was uploaded by an editor in the Netherlands whom I have sent an inquiry to. If the original source for the photograph cannot be determined, it is likely we will remove the image from Wikipedia. If you have evidence that the photograph was actually taken by the NPG, please let me know. Kaldari 16:07, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] William Herschel

Do NOT add copyright claims directly to pages. Talk pages are for comments, or you can send a DMCA take-down notice to our designated agent, as is the proper procedure. If you're working for the NPG, as your IP seems to indicate, then your behaviour is, frankly, completely unprofessional and unlikely to achieve the results you're looking for. --CalendarWatcher 16:40, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
