User talk:208.182.75.11

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Image:Info-pictogram.png Attention:

This IP address, 208.182.75.11, is registered to State of Tennessee Department of Education and is shared by multiple users. Comments left on this page may be received by other users of this IP and appear to be irrelevant. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking. In the event of vandalism from this address, efforts will be made to contact State of Tennessee Department of Education to report abuse.

If you are an unregistered user operating from this address, note that this need not necessarily be the IP address of your machine. In many cases, it turns out to be the IP address of a proxy server that communicates between your browser and the Wikimedia servers. Such proxies are shared among a huge number of users compared to the number of persons using your particular machine. If you are frustrated by irrelevant comments appearing here, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself.

At present nothing except vandalism is coming from the IP, and it recently started right up again after a week's ban. Shared or not shared, it's going to get permanently banned unless there's a change for the better, since nobody's sharing it for anything that benefits Wikipedia. Would students using this IP perhaps like to help fix the vandal edits? If you're interested, this is how: click "User contributions" in the left-hand sidebar of this page to see a list of the edits. Go for the new ones, older edits will probably already have been reverted. Click on the "diff" button of an edit to see exactly what was changed in the article. If it was inappropriate, and is still the "Current revision", click on the previous "Revision as of time/date/month/year" link. You are now seeing the last good version of the article. Do a tiny edit in it--an extra space between words won't show up on the page--and save. Vandalism gone. :-) Oh, and please write in the edit summary that you're reverting vandalism! 208.182.75.11 has been inserting random profanity in multiple articles. It's time for a permanent block. If the school staff won't supervise the students, then they all lose the ability to make edits. If the situation is ever put under control, they can apply to have the block lifted. I can say for sure that mostly vandalism will come from here. I will try to do my part to revert what vandalism comes from here once this ban expires, but one Wikipedian can't possibly keep it all down. Please watch this IP's contrib page when possible. Thanks. [edit] Regarding Permanent Ban

I attend the high school at which this IP is hosted. Now, I was wondering, is there a way to just ban the IP, and not users from that IP? I am a productive user of Wikipedia and I commonly attempt to revert any form of vandalism when it is seen. Also, I do not believe that our administration would be interested in the fact that this IP posts constant vandalism. Now, personally, I rarely have the opportunity to use any computer other than these, so you can see how it's important for me to be able to edit and such.

Sincerely, Quadrius 22:10, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
