[edit] Lebanese Australians
I am not happy with the content on the link - it lists rapists as notable Lebanese australians. they are criminals that tarnish our reputation. I believe I am entitled to remove their names. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.166.110.125 (talk • contribs).
- Just a note. This happens to everyone. All notable people of any group are listed there, whether they are good or not. See drug-dealers at Vietnamese Australian or Chinese Australian or gansters at Italian Australian or just List of Australians. Unfortunately, every ethnic group, will have criminals there, as the articles are meant to give information, even if it is unpleasant. Also, you are welcome to participate in the religion survey at the top of my page to see if I am biased or not.Blnguyen | rant-line 06:28, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
A definition of notable:
notable:Worthy of note or notice; remarkable: notable beauty; Characterized by excellence or distinction; eminent: formed a commission of notable citizens. See Synonyms at noted.
A person of distinction or great reputation. often Notable One of a council of prominent persons in pre-Revolutionary France called into assembly to deliberate at times of emergency.
Bilal Skaf and Mohammed Skaf - convicted gang-rapists, are not defined in the above.
I am not arguing if you are biased or not, I am merely stating fact.
The real issue is that all criminals, living in Australia, who have committed their crimes in Australia, are AUSTRALIANS. Categorising by race is an easy way of blaming ethnicity.
- I think that they are notable, there are plenty of criminals in Wikipedia, like Ivan Milat, Martin Bryant. Your point about blaming ethnicity for crime is not valid I think, because if so then one might also have to to remove Steve Bracks on the reverse point that an ethnic group would thereby "take credit" for a positive member of the community. Basically, either they all stay or all go, and perhaps a better way to discuss would be Australian noticeboard with the whole community. Also I think you should register an account because you are interested in serious debate and many users are reluctant to deal with anonymous editors.Blnguyen | rant-line 06:49, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I just checked the Italian Australians page, no mention of any criminals there - there must not be any hey? Oh I forgot about the Melbourne Underworld?? Mafia?? Anyway, when I have time I will write an accurate document. No-one in the Lebanese community denies there are problems with crime, but the document lists notable people. I, again, do not think the rapists are notable people.
- Alphonse Gangitano is a notorious Melbourne mafia who was shot dead. I think you should get an account. The fact that Bilal Skaf has a WP entry implies he is notable, same as Andrew Chan and Nguyen Tuong Van.Blnguyen | rant-line 06:59, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I unfortunatley don't have the time you have - so please ensure that the criminal mentioned is included in the Italian Australian section. that way you have ensured all is fair on this inaccurate webpage
