2002 NBA Draft - 26 June 2002– New York City, New York
In an otherwise weak draft, Yao Ming became the first international player with no American college experience to be drafted number one overall, and has since emerged as one of the league's elite centers. Amare Stoudemire has also emerged as a top-tier power forward, though he was limited by microfracture knee surgery for much of the 2005-2006 season. Carlos Boozer of the Utah Jazz has also begun to emerge as an elite big man.
