[edit] Notes

  • Fastest Lap: Mika Häkkinen 1m 40.962s

Four laps into the race rain started to fall. This rain soon became a monsoon with cars spinning off the track at every opportunity. The races defining moment came when the two Ferraris rejoined the race just ahead of the safety car, preventing themselves from being lapped. This allowed them to slowly follow the pack around the track on their Bridgestone intermediates which were less than suitable to the conditions. But as the track began to dry, the intermediates began to come into their own. The two ferraris scythed their way through the field with frightening speed. Michael Schumacher demonstrated the grip superiorty of his Bridgestone inters as he passed both McLarens along the straight! Predictibly this resulted in yet another Ferrari 1-2.
