1st Kisei
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 1977 Kisei was the birth of a new tournament. After the scuffle between Yomiuri Shimbun and Asahi, Yomiuri went on and created the Kisei. At the time, it was the highest paying tournament there had ever been, and would be up until the creation of the Ing Cup. Since this was the first year of the tournament, there was no set challenger or holder. From the 2nd edition on, there has been a playoff between challengers. The best professionals from around Japan would quickly try and qualify and win the large cash prize.
