1988 Massacre of Iranian Prisoners
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the summer on 1988, immediately after Iran accepted the cease-fire in the Iran-Iraq war, the Iranian government carried out a systematic slaughter of the political prisoners across the country especially those the government called "hypocrites" (Monafeghs).[1] They were called hypocrites because while claiming to be Muslims, the group wants a separation of Islam from governmental matters.
Dissident Ayatollah Montazeri has written in his memoirs that this massacre[1], deemed a crime against humanity, was ordered by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and carried out by several high-ranking members of Iran's current government. Ahmad Khomeini, whom Montazeri accused of collaboration in the killings, has died mysteriously during the Chain Murders of Iran.
