1984 Monaco Grand Prix

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Results from the 1984 Formula One Monaco Grand Prix held at Monaco on June 3, 1984. The race was stopped after less than half distance due to heavy rain, which denied Ayrton Senna the chance to lead a Grand Prix for the first time, in his rookie season in a generally-uncompetitive Toleman car. The stoppage was controversial, as it benefitted Alain Prost with a Porsche-derived engine, and was made by race starter Jacky Ickx, a Porsche employee in sports car racing. Senna was not the only young driver to run near the front - Stefan Bellof finished 3rd before the Tyrrell team's results were erased due to weight infringements, and Nigel Mansell spun out of the lead.
