1979 Italian Grand Prix

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1979 Italian Grand Prix was a Formula One race held on 9 September 1979 at Monza.

As expected the Renault turbos were quick in practice and took the front row of the grid. Equally as expected they were slow off the start line allowing Scheckter to take the lead from third qualifying position. He would only stay in front for a lap as Arnoux was able to go in front on the second lap. Scheckter would take the lead for good when the Renault engine gave way on lap 13. A one-two Ferrari finish clinched the drivers title for Scheckter.
