  • January 10, Pakistan and India sign an agreement in Tashkent, modern Uzbekistan, to formally end the hostilities between the two countries.
  • February, the leader of the East Pakistan Awami League, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced his six points that called for limiting the federal government to national defense and foreign affairs.
  • December 31, the government lifts ban on the political activities of 65 prominent politicians under Elected Bodies Disqualification Ordinance (EBDO).
