- May 14: President Heber J. Grant, the last LDS church president to have practiced polygamy, dies. George Albert Smith becomes the next president of the church.

- President George Albert Smith claims to petitions "the Lord" to lift the ban on blacks receiving the priesthood. He claims he is denied. Opposition by members of the Quorum of the Twelve apostles will result in the ban not being lifted until 1978.
