- February 10 - The Football Association autorized referees to sent off players uncorrectly. Before, the squad captains deciding sending off.
- March 7 - At Hamilton Crescent, Glasgow, England won 2-1 with Scotland, attendance 7,000.
- March 14 - Third edition of FA Cup, won by Oxford University 2-0 vs. Royal Engineers in final played at Kennington Oval, London, attendance 2,000 (see also: 1873-74 in English football)
- March 21 - First edition of Scottish Cup, final played at Hampden Park, Glasgow, won Queen's Park 2-0 vs. Clydesdale, 3,000 attendance (see also: 1873-74 in Scottish football)
- The Football Association makes rule change squad direction pitch in mid time. The first shin pads are introduced.
