• February 12 – serious cholera epidemic begins in London from the East London. It is declared officially over in early May but deaths continue. It claimed at least 3000 victims .
• June 4 - The Great Reform Bill becomes law in the UK
• July 4 - University of Durham founded, the first in England since 1209.
