• Ernst Chladni publishes "On the Origin of the Pallas Iron and Others Similar to it, and on Some Associated Natural Phenomena", in which he proposed that meteorites have their origins in outer space.
• John Dalton's Extraordinary facts relating to the vision of colours describes colour blindness for the first time. (published 1798)^[1]
