Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Regarding U2, the link's value is debatable, but your other "comments" are inappropriate. Perhaps you can take it to the talk page. Deadsalmon 20:32, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Understanding external links and reverts

Hopefully you've been receiving these messages on your talk page in relation to the link you've repeatedly added to the U2 article. After a number of reverts, however, you've continued to replace the link, which leads to two conclusions: it may not be clear why we continue to remove the link, or you're trying to vandalize the page. I'm hoping that it's the former.

In general, external links on articles need to have something particularly important about them to merit their inclusion. The link to the official U2 website, for example, makes sense, because it is an official source of information from the band itself. Another possible link to include would be a link to their record company. The reason your link is removed is twofold — first, it is too specific, as it is about a specific member of the band who has his own page. Second, and more important, it is a fan page, created by an individual (presumably yourself) with an interest in the band. Removing the link has nothing to do with the merit of the external site, rather, it goes along with the policy of what what Wikipedia is not: that is, Wikipedia is not meant to catalog every fan site in existence, being an encylopedia.

Take a look at some of the introductory material available for more information at Wikipedia:Introduction. It'll help clarify editing for you and prevent run-ins like these in the future. Deadsalmon 21:03, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
