- In Rome, the two consuls Gaius Popillius Laenas and Publius Aelius Ligus are both plebeian, a first in the history of the Republic.
- Envoys from Carthage appear before the Roman Senate to request resolution of boundary disputes with Numidia.

- Third Macedonian War commenced when war broke out between Perseus of Macedon and Eumenes II of Pergamum, after an assassination attempt on Eumenes, which instigated by Perseus, failed, Rome entered the war in support of Eumenes.
