User talk:168.99.197.187

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Okay, if you go to the International Community School or any other school sharing this IP and ended up on this page after discovering you could not edit articles, please remind your fellow students to stop with the stupid vandalism, because they are ruining in for other people who attend this school and are more responsible. I for one think it's embarrasing that we have been blocked this many times in a short two years or so. It's not funny, it's really just dumb.

Attention:

This IP address, 168.99.197.187, is registered to Lake Washington School District (Redmond, Washington) and may be shared by multiple users. Comments left on this page may be received by other users of this IP and appear to be irrelevant. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking.

If you are an unregistered user operating from this address, note that this need not necessarily be the IP address of your machine. In many cases, it turns out to be the IP address of a proxy server that communicates between your browser and the Wikimedia servers. Such proxies are shared among a huge number of users compared to the number of persons using your particular machine. If you are frustrated by irrelevant comments appearing here, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself.

However, you might still be unable to edit Wikipedia if the IP you are using is blocked due to a MediaWiki "feature". In such a case you could request to be unblocked.

In the event of vandalism from this address, efforts will be made to contact Lake Washington School District (Redmond, Washington) to report network abuse.

[edit] Letter regarding sending warnings

I received this letter from an Wikipedia urging permanent block, and I explained that we don't permanently block an IP, but I'll leave the text of his/her letter here because it also contains pertinent information for anyone looking to block/unblock this IP in the future:

Hello Nlu, I wanted to discuss with you the blocking of the IP address 168.99.197.187. It was blocked for persistent vadalism. I just wanted to inform you that the IP belongs to a public school, so the 'persistent vandalism' is likely caused by either many different people, or a select few troublemakers. Either way, I would reccommend permenantly blocing the IP from editing if possible. The block is sceduled to be removed sometime in June this year, and if it is removed, I greatly expect that the vandals will return. Just to save the administrators of Wikipedia some trouble, I would suggest a permenant ban. If someone wants to make a helpful contribution, they can do so at home or at the nearby public library, but people get very bored at school, causing them to do some strange things on the internet. I'm not sure if it is the IP of just the school, or of the whole School District as well, so I'm giving you the e-mail addresses of the school principal and the district superintendant in case you wanted to send them something as well.
Rhardie@lwsd.org --School Principal
Dsaul@lwsd.org --District Superintendant

As the they say in the movies, "ooh behave". Seriously, though, we are trying to write an encyclopædia here, so don't make joke edits. Some readers looking for a serious article mightn't find them amusing. Remember, millions of people read Wikipedia, so we have to take what we do a bit seriously here. OK?
